Macaranga is recruiting the 2nd cohort of Sprouts journalists – that’s what we affectionately call the new environmental journalists we train.
Our first cohort, recruited in December 2020, comprised young Malaysians with full-time jobs or studies. Almost all joined without journalism experience. They have written four stories since with more in the pipeline.
What we offer and expect:
- We will run a two-day workshop** on the basics of journalism to get you started. Workshop dates: 25 & 26 September 2021.
- We will work with and guide you on your reporting for Macaranga.
- We will pay you for your stories and credit you as the author.
- We expect you to write English well.
- We expect you to produce at least two stories (800 words each) in six months.
* We pay RM200 for your first story and RM500 for subsequent ones. Funds were crowd-funded.
** This workshop is supported by a grant from Soroptimist International Bentong, which focuses primarily on environmental and educational projects.
