The Climate-friendly Virgin in Terengganu

Tropical peat swamp forests are key bastions in our defense against global warming. They store huge amounts of carbon in their soil, and their forests absorb more greenhouse gases than they release.

Malaysia, like many other countries, has established regulations to stop the exploitation of peatland.

But private company Pure Green Development Sdn Bhd  is seeking to convert forests in Terengganu into oil palm. Its 2,228ha site includes 900 ha of virgin peat swamp forest.

We look at the project’s catastrophic climate impact and ways to protect the forest.

I’m going to be sarcastic but the sarcasm is laced with truth. All of it.

    1. It is a 3R issue so no one can say anything.
    2. If the Islamist state government thinks that it is ok then the voters don’t have a choice do they?
    3. If the federal government thinks it’s not ok then they have to find whatever legal means they have including making new laws to make it impossible for such things to not happen. If they don’t then who cares really?
    4. We get the government we voted for so vote better.
    5. The federal government has made it illegal for us to “criticize” the use of palm oil especially with labeling laws. Then [what the heck] are they complaining about now?
    6. Civil Society has been fighting this for ages but the federal government won’t enact anti SLAPP laws so they can just [keep quiet].
    7. It’s a 3R issue
